Irish Slang

Louise Vinciguerra on her blog Visa First has a humorous guide to Irish Slang. If you want to know what “Fancy a few scoops” and “Sound as a pound!” mean, have a look at it. However, you might just fancy going to Ireland and trying to work it out for yourself. How about a stay at one of these properties?

Killarney National Park

South and west of the town of Killarney in Co. Kerry is an expanse of rugged mountainous country. This includes the McGillycuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland which rise to a height of over 1000 metres. At the foot of these mountains nestle the world famous lakes of Killarney. Here where the mountains sweep down to the lake shores, their lower slopes covered in woodlands, lies the Killarney National Park. The distinctive combination of mountains, lakes, woods and waterfalls under ever changing skies gives the area a special scenic beauty.

In addition to taking a walk and enjoying the spectacular scenery, popular Park activities include biking, being driven in a horse-drawn carriage and visiting many archaeological sites.

Our properties 1 The Cable Station and Derrynane Lodge are located only an hour away from the Park. Why not make a trip to Killarney National Park when you stay at one of these incredible properties?

West Cork – A Place Apart

West Cork is the place many Dubliners head for – leaving hurried city lives behind to play along the long zig-zagging coastline, and walk or ride through peaceful inland woods and valleys. It is where those in the know go for a spectacular holiday, away from the hordes.

Hundreds of inlets, tiny coves, safe harbours and beaches are just right for long active days in the salty air – learning to sail, surfing, diving, whale watching, island-hopping, bird spotting, kayaking on a salt-water lake in the moonlight, messing about in boats. Or simply eating a fresh crab sandwich on a quayside.

For more information see what the Discover Ireland website has to say about the area.

Anchor Haven is situated in the beautiful, remote village of Crookhaven. Why not make it your next holiday destination?

Reflections of Ireland

theoriginalthread

Ireland has been a country that I have wanted to visited for many years and I am pleased that I was able to have a very relaxing week away in County Kerry in the South West corner of Ireland.

It is a country that has a rugged, natural beauty which I feel has been slightly neglected over the past few years due to the financial climate of the country.

I stayed in a holiday cottage in a little seaside village called Ballinskelligs, the view was amazing and the private access to the beach was a real treat for us as we live many hours from the seaside, so to have access so close was just perfect.

We did a lot of exploring the local area and seeing some spectacular coastlines with the rugged cliffs, waves crashing against rocks and the rolling hills of green with old stone farm cottages dotted about.
